How long
does it take to get my t-shirt quilt?
We can usually have your T-shirt quilt ready to return to you in
approximately 4-6 weeks after we receive your shirts. At certain
high volume times of the year, such as Christmas, our "turn-around" may be
longer.
We will include deadlines on this web site when appropriate. If you
need your quilt by a certain date, please let us know when ordering. Rush
delivery is available for an additional cost. If you need a quilt for a
special occasion such as graduation, Christmas, etc. please allow plenty
of time so that you won't be disappointed.
What about the color of fabric used?
We will pick the color of fabric that best compliments the T-shirts
used. However, if you have a certain color scheme you wish to have,
just let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you (you may
choose up to two colors). If you would like to provide your
own fabric (i.e. themed fabric), but the amount for the backing can't be
determined until after quilt top is complete.
How much does it cost?
The cost of the quilt is based on the size and number of t-shirts used.
Please see our pricing chart on the Order page.
What do I have to do with my t-shirts
before I send them to you?
The shirts need to be laundered before being sent to us (including
brand new shirts). Just remember that stains on the shirts
will show on the quilt. Please send the whole shirts and we will cut
the graphic out making sure that the graphic is centered as much as
possible.
If front and back of a shirt are to be used, please make a note
and pin it ("sticky notes" sometimes come off during shipping!) to the
shirt. Each graphic will count as one block (i.e., if a shirt has
graphics on the front and back that you want included in your quilt, it
will count as 2 blocks). Also, don't forget about the smaller
graphics on the pockets and sleeves. We can combine several of them
together to make one block
Can I add a photo to my quilt?
Yes! We can include one or more photos in your quilt. Simply send us
your digital photos (800x600 dpi minimum) on CD or via email, and we will
transfer them to a t-shirt block. Add an additional $10.00 per photo.
Can more than one graphic (i.e. pocket or
sleeve logos) be used to make a block?
We can combine any number of smaller graphics to make one block.
There is an charge of $3.50 per additional graphic if more than one
is used per block. Please indicate clearly which graphics you desire
to have combined, and in what order if you have a preference. We
have used as few as 2 and as many as 6 total graphics. (Pricing for 6
small logos in one block would be the price for 1 block plus $3.50
times the 5 additional blocks).
DEFINITIONS
backing - the fabric placed on the back side of the quilt.
batting - the "stuffing" of the quilt. It is made of
either cotton or polyester, and comes in different thicknesses. It is what
makes a quilt soft and fluffy, otherwise it would be just a flat blanket.
Each customer selects the thickness of batting they would like for their
own quilt! Keep in mind that the more t-shirts you use, the heavier
the quilt becomes! If you live in a warmer climate, you might want
to request a lighter weight batting.
binding - the finishing outside edge applied by machine
to the edge of the quilt and the finished edge is hand-stitched.
block - one square of the quilt, usually made up of
one t-shirt.
borders - The strips of fabric around the outer edge of the
front of the quilt.
hanging sleeve - Some people choose to display their quilts on a
wall. For $15.00 we can provide a hanging sleeve which we will
attach to the back of the quilt. Simply place a dowel or rod (not
included) through the sleeve and hang it.
meandering or swirls stitch - All t-shirt quilts are
machine quilted using your choice of a meander or a swirl
design.. This provides excellent stability and doesn't interfere with
the t-shirt designs. This also eliminates that saggy look you see
with tied or poorly quilted quilts. It will not detract from the
design of the t-shirts, and is easily thrown in the washer and dryer for
many years of use!
interfacing - the material used to provide structure
to each t-shirt block. T-shirts are stretchy and the quilt would not hold
it's shape without the interfacing. We use a light 100% cotton woven
interfacing which provides structure without being "stiff."
sashing - the fabric used between each t-shirt on the
quilt. It is used to form a 'frame' around the shirts and to make each one
stand out visually. The color of the sashing is different for each quilt,
and is carefully selected based on a color found in the designs of the
t-shirts. If you prefer a certain color for the sashing on your quilt, we
are happy to use it. We use only quality 100% cotton for our sashing.
If you would like to use two colors (i.e. your school colors) we can add
an accent color of your choice.
