About Betty
I learned about quilts and fell in love with quilts at a very early age. Always sleeping under hand-made quilts made by either my grandmother or great-grandmother. In 1978, I was newly married, snowed in for the winter in upstate New York, and pregnant with my first child. (Oh, and there was only one TV channel.) Quilting seemed like the ideal project to keep me busy. I've been piecing and quilting ever since!
After 20 or so years of hand quilting, I began machine quilting for myself on my domestic sewing machine. But, after years of wrestling quilts through that small opening and fighting tension issues, I decided to to invest in an APQS Ultimate I Longarm quilting machine. After a few years, I upgraded to the Cadillac of quilting machines - my Gammill Classic.
I've taken scores of piecing, appliqué, and design classes over the years with renowned quilters such as Phil Beaver, Esterita Austin, Becky Goldsmith, Irma Gail Hatcher, Ricky Timms, Janet Fogg, Pat Speth, Roberta Horton, Jinny Beyer, and many more.
I've taken machine quilting classes with quilting professionals as Jamie Wallen, Nichole Webb, Karen McTavish, Linda Taylor, Sally Terry, Dawn Cavanaugh, Christine Olson, Pam Clarke, Laura Lee Fritz, Cathy Franks and Jodi Robinson.
As a member of several professional organizations I strive to remain current with the latest techniques and designs by attending several instructional courses each year. I pride myself in the high quality of the quilts that I produce.
All work is done in a smoke-free and cat-free studio.

Betty is very proud and honored to be involved with "Quilts of Valor." Donating her time, materials, and skill is a very small token of appreciation that Betty can do to give back, continuing the tradition of "Quilting Honor and Comfort or our Wounded Soldiers."
